Hi all

I have been given a bottle of absinthe(yes, really). I believe that this has an aniseed flavour/smell. I do not like aniseed and have, in the past, had to move away from people who were drinking things like Pernod, Ricard etc. What should I do with this gift?

Drink it.
Send it to me. It was banned on the continent during WWI because it caused hallucinations, but it was never banned in Britain, although it was not a popular drink here.
Give it to me ! It does have a strong aniseed flavour and it's slightly bitter (due to the presence of wormwood extract).
It is perfectly safe, but it does make the heart grow fonder ;-)
Last time I drank Absinthe I had the most awful nightmares and I am a lover of Pernod, so take your chances.
Ah yes, la fée verte...

Absinthe is known to be very unhealthy, but only in fairly large quantity over many years - a bottle won't kill you, though I would suggest not downing it in one gulp...

But, as you don't like Pastis, I doubt you'll enjoy it much...
It can't be any worse than Buckfast...
it is reckoned that had there been no absinthe there would have been no surrealism.
...or what I'm about to pop open/drink ;-)
Where would Glasgow be without Buckfast!
Indeed, just as there would have been no psychedelia without LSD...
Probably in the same place, but nicer Mike :)
Imagine the Toon without Broon...
The Broon isn't what is was 40 years ago. There was a special ward in the RVI for addicts.
