Never tried them but wondering what things like haggis, snails and frogs legs actually taste like if anyone has tried them?

I could see myself trying haggis but not sure I could stomach the other two.

Feel free to comment on anything else wierd and wonderful you've eaten.

I tried haggis once, on about my 4th stay in Scotland, I was too chicken to order it the first three times!

It tasted a bit like minced up liver/kidneys to me so if you like offal, you will probably like it - I did.

Can't say I have tried frogs legs or snails - just picturing the slimy creatures puts me off!!

I haven't either Jen, but when I was in Scotland last week I stayed at a hotel where there was a breakfast buffet. Haggis was served in burger form alongside fried eggs, and also in a pot where it looked a bit like fried mince. It didn't look unappetising, but I didn't want to eat it for breakfast!

I eat haggis occasionally, not with the traditional potatoes and turnips, but with mash and baked beans. It is an immediately recognisable taste and texture, quite strong and spicy but not hot.

You may find it chilled in larger supermarkets, but a good way to start is with a tinned one - Grants is a good make.

Snails, frogs legs - no thanks.

Frogs legs taste a little like chicken or rabbit but obviously there's not much meat on the bones - quite nice but a bit fiddly to eat on a regular basis - snails I just couldn't bear the thought of even trying!

Haggis is a bit like savoury mince ...I like it ..
frogs legs are like chicken ..but not tried snails ..
you can't say you don't like it until you have tried it ..
So be brave and give it a try !!

Haggis is lovely - it's a bit like the inside of a commercially made cornish pastie, only spicier and much nicer.

Snails taste a bit cockles/mussels and I think they're very nice.

Never had frogs' legs, but I'm told they taste chicken-y.

Proper haggis is fine.
Frogs legs are quite nice, like chicken but a bit slimier - but I've never had one with bones in it. Lol - boneless frogs legs??
Snails are gorgeous done in garlic butter.

Haggis tastes a bit like mince with oats. At least that's what I like to tell myself, since I refuse to know what's actually in it! lol

You'd think I'd be quite the expert on frog legs and snails...Actually, like all things icky, they repulse me, and I have never tried them (refused point blank, in fact).
Some people do love snails though, especially with garlic, apparently. Frog legs are supposed to taste like chicken.

Well, if I want to eat something that tastes like chicken, I'll eat chicken, thank you! lol

Haggis - lovely - eat is regularly, but then I am scottish - the grants haggis in a tin is nice as mentioned above. Heat is slowly in a small pan with a knob of butter.

Frogs legs, a bit like chicken leg meat - okay but wouldn't seek them out.

Snails, a bit like mussels, you really taste what they have been cooked in rather than the snails themselves.

Also eaten eel (okay - a bit like tuna but not so fishy), shark (just meaty fish) and emu (closest I would say is turkey).

iv eaten a whole fried frog.grasshopper and a big black beatle in thailand.they all tasted nutty and horrible.The locals loved them.

I agree woth Ummmm regarding snails, you need to chew them. If it wasn't for the garlic butter they wouldn't be the same. Snails in tomato sauce have never caught on.
Frogs legs now all seem to come from China, the poor beggars, still alive have their legs ripped off - this means a lot less people eat them, knowing this.
Haggis, sorry no thank you. I'm not an offal fan.
