A friend of mine has an old book called 'How To Boil An Egg'. As you can see from the title, it's a basic cookery book, and I'm trying to find out the authors name, as I need to buy it for someone for Christmas.

Nicola Jane - If you cannot obtain this book from the source that wildwood gave you, I have a very similar book that was bought fairly recently called "How To Bake A Potato" by Carolyn Humphries. I'll gladly give you any more info should you need it.

Thanks, Cetti. That would be great. If only there were a book titled, 'How to Find the Kitchen'. It would suit the recipient down to the ground!
Are we talking male-child here?? Finding the kitchen is the easy bit - opening cookery book by said male-child, now that's difficult!!!! Anyway this book was only published in 2001 and I picked it up in Ottokar's (sp?) for 3.99. The ISBN is 0-572-02618-8. It's a fun looking book, and really does cover absolutely everything - including jointing a chicken to Tricks of the Trade - a good starter book.

Thank you very much.
I have this book, it was bought for me years ago when I first left home. A mate borrowed it and I haven't seen it since......until last week when I saw a load in a bookshop in Portsmouth, I think it would have been Ottakers, but if you can get it of Amazon no worries. It is very useful, although I still can't boil an egg!
