I also told them they would have to walk round next door to use the facilities (it is quite a walk to get in the neighbour's front door - you have to walk up the road and go down the old farm track), instead of just nipping in our back door. Respect is a two-way street but I felt it had developed into a one-way system. And I wasn't very lovely when I got a load of back chat when I asked one of them to shut the gate he had just walked through. But they are now gone - but I fear they could be back quite soon since the roof looks awful. It may well come off in the next storm.
Morning. It's cold and damp here but OH has managed to get dog out for a walk. We have tilers here tiling the porch floor..traditional black and white 9" square..so the front door is open and it's getting rather chilly 🥶
Weve been very lucky with all the tradespeople we've had in the house lately, without exception they've been polite, cheerful and hardworking. I supply tea, coffee or cold drinks on a regular basis but never offer food of any kind.
I know this sounds silly, but I wish Mr L would let more tradespeople come round. He won't give up doing everything himself and very few tradespeople have come round over 40 odd years and he was 77 on Saturday. I worry, especially as his knees are awaiting replacement. My son is going in the same direction, even though he works about 70 hours a week. I suppose it keeps Mr L occupied which is good, but.............
I must admit he's very precious about our house because we rebuilt it ourselves without help apart from the main roof and he knows ever inch of every bit of the building inside and out. It's hard for him to watch others working. But I can't get it through to him that he has to slow down, even if it's just for my sake.
It's not silly, Lotty, he'll just have to come to the decision himself when he feels the time is right. It's good that he feels he still can do things.
OH used to do all the decorating here, which he hated, until a few years ago when we found a great decorator and he's not picked up a brush since. Same with DIY, since being on a forum for the local area where there are loads of recommends for local tradespeople, we now just get someone in.
When all our renovations, etc, are completed, and the carpets professionally cleaned which they badly need, I'm going to find a cleaner to do a top to bottom deep clean and then come once or twice a month to keep on top of it all. I've decided life's too short 😊
I wouldn't be without our cleaner now, she's great and very good. Mr L was quite prepared to do it! But I took charge of that situation. She ones weekly for 2/3 hours and I give her free range to what she thinks needs doing.
Our garden is huge and he's actually now let me get someone in when ladders are involved! It's a wild, wild garden rather than a garden garden with pretties.
Funnily enough Ladybirder we don't see many foxes out in the countryside. They are much more wary of humans and don't raid bins etc. There are plenty of rabbits and other animals to eat!
We do have a lovely deer who visits us regularly sometimes with her offspring. She's having a good time eating our windfall apples and Mr T is spreading some out on the field behind for her shyer mates. She manages on 3 legs. We think the gammy third leg might be from birth. She's been visiting us for years. Mrs Hoppity Deer
