Flight 93 - crashed or shot down ?

Im sure we are all aware of the tragic story of flight 93 on 09/11 and the heroism of all onboard but was wondering what is the general consensus ?

Did they crash just as they broke into the cockpit or had their time run out and the us air force shot them down?
