hi i wonder if someone could give me some advice. We bought a 42inch hd ready samsung two years ago and now it is not working. We left it into the shop we bought it from and they said three boards had gone and it would cost four hundred pound to fix. I am totally devastated as we paid 14oo for it. Does anyone know what we could do as we do not have that sort of money to pay. You think when you buy a good brand tv it would not go like that i thought maybe could it not have been faulty. Do you think we would have any comeback. many thnaks

It's the penalty for buying new technology

me personally - softly softly - let someone else iron out the bugs - the whole thing is disposable - the screens won't be around anywhere near as long as CRT

plasma has a habit of doing what yours has done ... cascade failure (aka domino)
one board fails - which blows the next ... and the next and .....

you say you paid 1400 - if you take that thought to the next step - replacing the bits is going to be in the same price range .... EXPENSIVE .

there isn't a way round - you can try anothere repairer - but they'll be of a price .... unless the guy is wrong (or bent).

tesco are doing some good 17" monitors quite reasonable

a 32" replacement could cost the same money as the repair

do you actually need 42"?
presumably it will be your main source of light and heat ... as well as hiding that unsightly .... wall ...
Acthetroll pretty much has it. The boards are the YSUS and ZSUS and one takes out the other.
Unlike CRTs, where 'off the shelf' components mostly costing pence can save a set, the plasmas are usually entire panels which need changing so repairs are hideously expensive. result- many more scrap items in landfill. so much for new technology and eco-friendliness :-(

it's ironic really - I have just serviced one of the first Hitachi Nicam sets for a customer who has had it since 1989, total cost of repair two quid and a bit of solder!
i would write to samsung, any tv set should last more than 2 years,"new tech or not".
explain to them the shops findings or even better get the shop to give you as written report and send that with the letter,
you cant loose anything by trying
