my son is 18 and has been to college for a mechanics course for 2 yrs.am i supposed to pay child maintenance?

Is there a Court Order ? If there is then this will normally stipulate that maintenance will be paid for as long as your son is undergoing full-time education notwithstanding the fact that he may have attained the age of 18 years. In that event, then "yes" you will have to pay.

Surely you'd want to help him out ,wouldn't you? Do you have to have a court order to do that?

Of course it will be different once he's earning
