I'm taking my girlfriend to Las Vegas as a surprise for her birthday but also want to propose when we are there. How do I find out her ring size and do I buy the ring before we go or do I get one out there together?

Oh no, you have to chose it yourself! It's part of the whole "proposing" thing in my opinion, and shows you have made a huge effort!. Can you maybe try to get hold of one of her rings that she never wears, and get the size that way? Also, make sure you do your research and ask her best friend, family...etc...what style she would like best, as long as you don't mind them knowing and they won't spill the beans! If in doubt, go for a "classic" cut, something timeless, yet elegant.
Congratulations!!!
Well even if the ring is the wrong size, you should be able to get it altered, check with the jewellers.

But well done and congratulations, hope it all goes well and she loves the ring. Will you buy gold, white gold or platinum?

Thanks for the advice. Will be going for either white gold or platinum. Most likely platinum to avoid the whole carry on of having to get white gold dipped again.
Good choice! I really don't like yellow gold, white / platinum has a lot more class. Lucky girlfriend!!! lol
Let us know how it went ok? We like a good fairytale story on here! x

Will do. Not going until September. Was thinking of about 1000 does that sound okay?
Omg- a ring pull from a can would've done for me if my hubby had taken me to Las Vegas to propose!! Definately buy the ring before and Yes, 1000 will be quite adequate. Can I clone you? LOL.
Yes, I would like one of your hair, just to see if my "Clone-a-man" kit works. Please? :O)

Yes, 1000 is DEFINITELY ok...Sigh....
to find out your girlfriends ring size, admire a ring she is wearing on her right wedding ring finger. Put it on your little finger and mark the spot with your thumbnail till you can find a pen. Go to the jeweller, he has a tool for measuring ring sizes, show him your mark and you then have the size.

I Love my hubby to bits- but "Shall we get married" in the ads of a grand prix doesn't have the same ring to it as going to Las Vegas and having a 1000 ring. Bless him, he's fast asleep on the sofa, snoring.

LOL max. I'll get back toyou.
well done you. i would definatly not go with the previously mentioned eternity ring (sorry) thats for a year down the line on your first anniversary!!

i would definalt go for a solitaire diamond maybe a princess or brilliant cut you cant go wrong with either of those and should get a good sparkler for 1000 !

as far as size goes it not really possible to guess accuratly unless your girlfriend wears rings already.

i would go by whether she has a slight or heavier build and ask the jeweller for the average.

ask someone who seems about the same stature as her to give you a measurement maybe a friend or sister.

as someone has already said you can have it altered quite easily so im sure she will be thrilled what ever size it is.

if all else fails go for an M OR N as long as she hasnt got huge hands this should be ok till you can get it adjusted.

good luck and i hope you will be very happy together.
I agree with Suzy - eternity rings are more for when you have babies!!

I think a single diamond on a platinum band is a winner - good luck and happy times ahead.

Less is more as they say. Choose something simple and elegant. A single diamond (any shape) on a platinum band would be gorgeous or my favourite would be an oblong emerald with a diamond either side. My other halfs eyes are green! Whatever you do don't go for some huge naff sparkler made up of loads of small diamonds! I wish he was half as romantic as you, best of luck. Let us know how it goes.
I like Platinum too, but the ring I like is about 12K, so not sure I'll get it.
I think..... take her there ... do a really romantic proposal, maybe a helicoptor ride with the champers. Then go together to buy the ring. My hubby bought mine and although I loved his spontinaity (?) I've worn it for 41 years and never really liked it. Ungratefull cow that I am!
