Hi janetsflower. Sorry to not answer your question directly but I have a similar problem ie, Very wealthy self-employed ex husband with property abroad, yacht, etc and get just 10 per week via the CSA as he 'gave them his accounts' (obviously massaged to within an inch of their life) and that is the amount calculated! I cannot give the exact address of his villa or the name of his yacht or where it is moored, so the csa 'can't do anything!' So do you have more information about this, like a web address, so I can look into it?
Thank you.
Kerris
Ps. I would hazard a guess and then add a couple of extra grand, just in case I had under calculated. If it is too much, it can be changed but if it's too little it will probably stand!
University is an average of 3000 a year, in fees alone, so food, clothes, bills etc on top of that..
the best way to work it all out is look at your average bills, ie food, gas electric and take a third (if there is just the two of you living there: he is smaller beng 10 and all!)
work out how often you buy clothes (uniforms etc) and half that, since you would usually compromise paying half if you were still together.
factor in a few extra thousands for things like holidays etc but not too much since that was generally your choice...

if you work it out as a year, then you can multiply it, but show exactly how you've worked it out so when it does go to court/hearing you can show your not just pulling a random figure out of a hat

its just an idea of how to do it but hope it helps x

thanks for the replys - i am working on this now and let you know how i get on. Kerris, have a look at child support solutions website but what i am claiming under is The Childrens Act 1989 Section 15 schedule 1. Also is your CSA claim under the old rules? If so cancel and ask for it be be re opened under new rules (you have to wait 13 weeks but its better under new rules, they have a lot more powers and can investigate your ex more thouroughly without you having to supply addresses etc. My ex was the same and sold all his assets and bought new so that i couldn't trace them but he now has inland revenue investgating his accounts. The CSA have some inland rev people working on these complx cases and apparently are getting some good results, but also see your solictor about a claim under this law. Good luck
You might want to make sure they actually class university as ull time education - when I was there my mother stopped recieving maintenance for me as a uni student as soon as I started my course, however she did get it for my sister for an extra year because she was taking NVQ's. So I think it depends what kind of course he may end up doing, although now there are new fee's for uni I think they might have changed the rules regarding divorced parents so its something worth checking
