Bissell Carpet cleaner repairs

Has anyone else had problems with their Pro Heat carpet cleaner after it has gone back to \bissell for repairs?
Having only used mine twice since it went back to the company, i decided to freshen up the carpets i time for Christmas. The smell of burning was terrific, and nothing worked, although out of the repair warranty they did say that they would have it back, although I suspect the repairs are done with reconditioned parts, not new.
Can I expect this to be a pattern now? I will wrote to the MD who is in America, does anyone know of the people in charge in the UK, and what has anyone else done in this instance. I'm lucky it didn't set the house on fire, or cause electricution.
