Hi all,

I need some help, it's my mum's 50th on 29th of December and I have no clue what to get her. My Dad's getting her jewellery, she doesn't really have any hobbies and it would just be nice to get her something special. No particular budget, I don't mind spending a bit on her.

Any suggestions greatfully recevied!

How about some sort of experience? There are Red Letter days that you can buy -balloon rides, that sort of thing. We do a gift package for a recording studio session where your mum could come in and record a vocal to her favourite song on backing track.
It was dad's 50th earlier in the year and I bought him two tickets to see a West End show (I think it came to around 100 odd), and my brother paid for a night in a hotel for him.

What about getting tickets for a show or a band or a comedian she and your dad would like to see, or two tickets so you and her can go together?

What about going shopping and treating her to lunch - you could get some bargains in the sales and treat her to a lunch somewhere posh! Or how about taking her out to the cinema and a meal?
YOu can get theatre tticket vouchers that can be exchanged whe she knows what she might want to see. When I was 50 I would have liked some kind of spa treat. Look up your local spas and ask them if they do gift vouchers.
maybe vouchers for a pamper day?? I know you can get overnight stays at smaller health spas for about 70 pound ???
Ragdale Hall vouchers yea !!!!! I loved it for my 60th !!!
A weekend away in a nice hotel which has a spa etc , also Dad could go as well .
are you noit having a party for her? that would be really good, get her old mates together and the family.
when my mum was 50, I was 17 and stil at school. (1982)I made her 'half a telegram from the queen' I think I got her something else as well, but she's never let me forget the half a telegram. She definately didn't see the funny side of it !!!!!!!!!!!
Good quality jewelery box. Handbag. Magazine subscription.
I think photo albums are a great present, you will need to scrounge as many pics as possible from family and friends. Start the album with baby pics of your mum, then work your way through the years, with school photos, her graduation eg. Wedding Day, then add pics of yourself as a baby and any siblings you have, then move on to grandchildren, if any. You can ask her friends to lend you some photos which you could copy and include.
What about a UK day excursion on The Orient Express.
Something she will always remember. I bought my mum a flying lesson a few years back and she loved it!
On my Mums 50th My sister & I made a whole day of it rather then spend loads on a present. We arrived in the morning with croissants and bucks fizz for breakfast and then took her out for the day to a stately home, then lunch. We arranged for flowers to be delivered for when she got home and then my dad & brother in law joined us for a family dinner. We also brought her a digital camera! She loved it cos all mums love (and deserve) to be spoilt for the day!!
