My Grandfather served in the RAF during the second world war.

Is there a site that I can find out about what he did? as I am trying to make a present for my Dad and my Gran about his life without them knowing. I know nothing about his time served as he died when I was young and I can't remember. Any ideas on where to start?

All records from the second world war are held at www.raf.mod.uk/links/contacts.cfm Hope this helps and what a lovely thing to do
Both links will help, it would be an easier challenge if you knew anything about service, rank number etc as those of us who do or have served are very much a catalogued society. There is an archive service of all previous serving personnel that you might be able to use. If i can find the link or contact i will post it for you.
If he had any medals his number is on the rim, if he had any discharge papers it is also on there, but i always knew my ex husbands number and so your gran may know it too, i can still remember it, J8084097, and he has been gone 10 years
I have no ideas but just wanted to say what a nice idea that is :)
