How does this make the kids feel, do they grow up expecting to be treated like this themselves with their own kids?

It's a really difficult question to answer as I think you're asking if they will end up doing the same with their children should they have any.

My mum and dad divorced when I was 7. We moved back from England and saw him a few times a year, less some years. It hasn't made me expect that my little girl will have the same sort of life though (Mr Cuppa and I are still together as I write!). Mr Cuppa adores her and I dont think he would stand only seeing her once a week anyway.

As long as the dad doesn't start missing his days with the kids on a regular basis, they will know he still loves them and the bond will continue and hopefully even grow.

The other important thing that happened was that our mum never badmouthed my dad in front of us, so we weren't 'trained' to think of him in any way other than we wanted to. This must have been hard for her as it was a bad marriage and now I'm older I know what a destructive person he is from my own experiences with him, but I'm lucky in that I was allowed to make up my own mind. I still see my dad, by the way.
