I suggest you speak to your local benefits office / Job centre or Connexions centre in your area I am sure they would be able to give you the answer
If he is in full time education, college or university, working or not, his mum is entitled to child maintenance but I'm not sure about Child Benefit, that might stop when he leaves secondary school.
When my son stayed on at school until he was 18.1/2 years and I still received family allowance. He also worked at weekends. That was some time ago but I don't think it has changed now.
I believe she will still get the child benefit until the September following his eighteen birthday providing he is still in full time education. !2 hours may not qualify as full time. www.direct.gov.uk should have information or links to find out
If in full time relevant education a dependent can now receive child benefit up to the day before their 20th birthday. It is ok for him to do his part time job as well, this does not affect his EMA grant.

Also child benefit has to be in pay so that he is still deemed as a dependent.
