I don't know whether this is the correct section for my query but nevertheless here goes. My mother is 84 and permanently resident in a Care Home. Her legs have virtually packed up and she has great difficulty in bending them. I am looking for an attachment for her manual wheelchair which will allow her to keep her legs raised and straight when being wheeled about. I have searched various disabled and wheelchair accessory websites but cannot see such items. Any suggestions would be helpful. Many thanks.

Ask your local social services dept , they should be able to advise.
Elevating Legrests are what they are called
Try your local red cross branch they may have a medical loans department and also should have a catalog to buy stuff from
The home should be dealing with this. Ask for an Occupational Therapist assessment to be arranged so she is assessed properly and safely. If the home do not cooperate then contact her GP yourself and request that this is arranged.

Sorry to hear about your mum
Hi Bigfellah,
I agree that the Care Home ought to be dealing with this. Have you made any suggestions to them regading this issue. I don't know where you live, but most gadgets, fitments for wheelchairs are supplied by the TORT dept. in most hospitals. They will assess your Mum and supple the equipment required.
Go to your website and find the address of your nearest TORT Department.
Good luck.

Thanks for the further suggestion. I have since spoken with the staff at the care Home and a "Wheelchair Assessor" is calling to see mum to work out the best solution for her.

Thanks to all.
