Baby in hospital ...

My baby niece (she's 16 months) was rushed to hospital in an ambulance this morning. When she woke up, she could barely lift her head and was all floppy.

Apparently, her blood sugars are low and she's being given glucose and they're trying to find out what's caused it. Will she be alright? What could it possibly be? I'm so worried about her x

Babys are a lot stronger than we adults think they are and Im sure she will be crawling around your feet biteing at your ankles in no time .

Question Author

Hi again. Thank you so much for your best wishes, I've passed them on.

She's still on a drip at the moment and her blood sugar levels have dropped to 2 point something (same as they were when she was rushed in), they were 5 something a little while ago. She's got a lot more energy than she had before (might have something to do with the little dog and balloon I got her) and she's had a few yoghurts (only thing she'll touch).

The doctors who came round while I was there, are still baffled and keep taking blood from her (which is so distressing for her and to watch).

I'm going back up there in a couple of hours. Broke my heart to leave her, she physically attached herself to me. I'll keep updating you all, thank you so much for everything. I'm going to try and see what I can find on the net. xxxx

Well it does sound like she's getting better rather than worse, so fingers crossed. x
still thinking of you whiskey darling all the best keep us posted if you find out what it is also xxx

Hi Whiskey.Just got in.Am glad that she is no worse - you know what kids are like - they often recover and nobody is any the wiser as to what was wrong in the first place!! Let us all know later on if you hear anything new.xx

Question Author

Hi everyone. Just gotten in from the hospital, she's a lot brighter and more active (she was bouncing in the cot :o)). Her blood sugars are varying from slightly low to normal now, so she's getting better. Doctors need to find out why they were low in the first place as it shouldn't happen.

Thank you so much for your concern and I'll still update this thread. Thanks xxxx WS
