Does anyone know why Beatles' CDs are always so expensive? They're the only artists I know whose albums, even in the sales, always cost at least 9.99. Is their something in the rights to them that stipulates they must have a minimum price?

Sorry, this should be in the music section. My fault.

As a Beatles fan myself, I would say it's simply because as they are the most famous band of all time they have always been very popular, and still sell like hot cakes. For that reason there is no need for the record stores to lower their prices. That is only an educated guess though, if someone knows better please correct me.

Doesn't Michael Jackson own the Beatles rights or am I out of date?

Maybe if he does he needs the money to pay for his legal costs.

Further I would still pay inflated prices for the Fab Four compared to about 97.38 percent of modern rubbish.

I'm with magicbeatle on this, I think it is because the stores still sell the albums and don't need to reduce the price too much to shift stock. The stores still have the rates and staff wages to pay.
pure economics - supply and demand - demand is still there so price doesn't vary much !

Absolutely correct - any store will only reduce the price of anything if it won;t sell at the top price - not a problem The Beatles have aver had.

Plus, thanks to the clver marketing strategy of Neil Aspinall who ran Apple, and still oversees the cataloge, no Beatles songs are ever released for compilations, 'greatest hits' or similar, and the ones not owned by MJ are never used in advertising either - a beacon of musical purity in a prostituted advertising-dollar world.

RE Michael Jackson I heard a rumour he had to sell the copyright to fund his recent courtcase. And I also understand that copyright only lasts for a certain number of years anyway - after which duplication of music becomes a bit of a free-for-all?!

Having said that, I have a bit of good news for you. WWW.Play.Com has a Beatle offer at the moment. Two Albums for 15.99. Good Luck!

Queen albums, like the Beetles also seem to have a minimum price of 9.99.

Possibly due to supply and demand - demand is still great for Queen albums.
