Got back late last night to find my darling Brice at the entrance to my driveway.
It appears he had been hit by a car.
I am truly broken by this.
Today we will be holding a funeral for him and trying to rally round in time to pick up the hounds.

He'll be up there (or actually, probably down there) with ASBO, creating merry hell. RH - one the hardest things I did was bury ASBO. It is still raw as hell, but trust me - as the days go by it will get better. Try and hang onto the fact that he had an amazing life with you and Mr RH, and was loved so much. In time, the memory of you finding him will fade but the memories...

Sqad my cats have a cat sitter as I don’t like putting them in a cattery
I understand.
Oh , I’m so sorry .
So sorry to hear this Helen.
Like you, my sympathies also go to your cat sitter who must feel devastated.
I am really sorry to hear that your holiday ended with the loss of a cherished family member.

RIP Furbaby Brice. xxx
Sorry to hear RH. The bottom line is that you have to give most cats their freedom it's not like having a dog so the risk of something like this happening will always be there.

Thanks all, yes I agree that cats need freedom but this is the first cat I have lost this way.
Brice was a character who loved me so much he liked to get under my tops and cuddle into my skin but he was happy roaming for hours and coming in when tired, given his start in life and his medical issues I knew he was never going to live to an old age - but so quickly has knocked me off my feet.
C&J are going to miss him too. It must have been one hell of a shock to find the wee man like that.

He was just a little baby ♥♥♥
Omg am so so sorry, what a terrible shock. Sending you all my love.
A couple of years ago me and MrSmow were on holiday, and his mum would come in every single day to feed our two cats, check they were ok, sort post etc etc……. In the 2nd week of us being away she let herself in, came into the kitchen to find that Meg(the long haired one) was laying dead on the kitchen floor. She wasn’t even very old. No explanation at all, but Pepper, the other one, was sat next to her. It was an awful shock for my MIL, and she txt my husband to tell him and to ask whether she should tell me while I was on holiday(they were my cats really). He said no, to wait till I got home, which he did, as he knew I’d have been devastated.
So so sorry for you and Brice x
So very sorry to read this.
Losing a much loved pet is always hard. You gave him the best possible life and have a lot of happy memories to comfort you. Take care
