I suspect I may have piles, do you recon that its ok just to go and buy a cream without getting the doctor to check me out, or is a visit the best idea? I've never had them before, but my itchy bum is driving me crazy! I'm only 23 - i feel far too young to get piles!

My mother swears by "witchhazel"  But you should go to the Doctors
hannahjo   there are lots of over the counter remedies you would be able to try if it was what you suspect, it could be worms  they give similar symptoms so you might want to talk to  your GP any way.

Thanks guys :)
You can get them at any age, I'd have a chat with your GP. They are very common but treatable. The doc will also tell you how to avoid them - such as eating high fibre diet and drinking lots of water. Like flump1 says, it might not be piles so best to have it checked :o)

Are you sure its piles. It could be worms. I know that sounds awfull but its not that uncommon. If you say it is itching. If it is worms you can buy something for it over the counter at the chemist. Probably the way to find out is to use a tissue when you feel the itching and you should be able to see little white worms. Not pleasant but easily cured.

it could be something as simple as a yeast infection..try cutting your sugar intake to a bare minimum..for a few days and drink loads of water..cut back on bread also...if its just yeasy you can get a tablet and cream at the chemist..
sorry i spelt yeasy wrong..
