Legally Married Or Not!

It has been suggested by my brother that our parents were not legally married. This was during the war, my mother made all the arrangements but she added a letter "s" to his surname on all the documents. They always used the name with the additional letter. When dad died many years later we realised by his birth certificate the difference in his name. Does this make any difference to their marital status?

I hope not, Caran......when we received our certificate MrG had married someone called....Max???
We sent it back to be changed....it was....to another wrong name so I thought....oh well.......it was Canada....they're quite laid back.....so I took it no further...........☺

It was a bit of a shock to think at my age may be from the wrong side of blanket!
It was a shock for me finding out MrG had married Max.....not that he was overjoyed at the thought either......☺
Mad Max?

I bet gness, I would have been shocked too. I presume same sex marriages were not in vogue at that time?
Just pull up the duvet Caran, much cosier.
My feeling, Caran, is it will make no difference.
You would maybe get a more informed reply if you post in the Law section?

It's more fun here though!
In my opinion, none whatsoever.
But best if you got a legal expert to confirm or otherwise.
Nobody wants to be a wet blanket
Oh, Shoota......Mad Max would have paled into insignificance with everything that went wrong on our wedding day......the judge forgot she was marrying us and had gone off shopping.....a strange lady with dementia latched onto me and became my bridesmaid.....the florist arranged my bouquet in a ceramic vase...and the ceremony took place in a garden full of gorgeous topless sunbathers...which is why we only have sideways face shots of MrG and his best man.....☺
Thirty odd years ago, Caran...so no same sex marriages......was handy though....if I felt shirty I could say....Right...I'm off....see if you fare any better with Max!....☺

Gness, how have you reached your great age? The things that happen to you are beyond words! Why have you not written a book? It would be a best seller.
Caran....I thinks it's simply because God and the Devil can't agree who should have me.....I mean....would you want me living with you?....☻
Question Author
It certainly would be entertaining, I think we would be a great match!
I'll bring the wine......☺

My disasters, and OH's run a close second to yours, so bring it on!!
I was guilted into changing my wedding day as a friend wanted to get married that day, same church, same reception venue. My father catering for the reception(s).
Poured with rain, father heroically carried umbrella above himself on walk up to church. Ringlets straightened. Elderly reverend gentleman (friend of father) completely lost the plot. Had to prompt him. Called us Man and Life.
Hymn started eventually, much to his surprise.
Confetti in my soup at reception, Best Man embarrassing. Groom slept on Wedding Night.
none at all.
