Yes Daisy Nonna would love to hear more from you - did you live in Newcastle or am I being nosy!
I was born and bred in Byker - tough old days but we were happy.
Made it to Secondary school as it was then called and, apart from 4 years in the Navy during the war, eventually managed to qualify as a accountant.
Wasn't easy! buy worth it - life changed greatly for the better!
Must close but tell me more.

Cheers webbo3,
True about the weather up North - have you seen pictures in the press about the guys and girls out on the town - particularly in Newcastle Bigg Market - might as well be naked!
Oddly enough, I seem to feel the cold more these days.
You are agreat lot of folk and I'm so happy to have met you

I stayed in Pelaw by Gateshead for a bit....used to spend Saturdays in Wilson square ...had just opened...then up to st James' park...haway the lads from the Lee's' end !!happy days.....la dolce vita in pink lane was a regular haunt....rose and crown, Yates wine lodge, ...
My mother came from Murton, near Seaham Harbour, (Wearsiders), we used to go visit my Nan and Grandad and her sisters at Christmas and sometimes Easter holidays. I loved going there, my cousins were about the same age as me, I loved the way they talked and they liked the way we Yorkshire people talked. My Grandad was a pitman at Easington Colliery and all my Uncles too. They wouldn't allow their sons to go down the pit though. Only one aunt left now and two cousins still living there. I wish I had some photos of the bungalow and the street my Nan lived in but it's all gone now.
EILDON square....predictive text thingy....

Every response wakes a memory of happy times in the friendliest north country.

Hi Jack....can an Irish lass living in the midlands say how are you? I do have a Geordie electrician I go bird watching with if that counts. :-) x
Morning Neighbour, If you still lived a few 100 yards from me I would pop in for a cupper and run the vacuum cleaner round for you.
Every time my Husband and I leave the house we have the following conversation-
Him--"EE pet its a bit nippy".

Me--"Its winter and your in a t-shirt"

Him--"Aye your right, maybe I should have put a jumper on"

Me--"Why don't you buy a winter coat?"

Him--"Because its never cold enough for a winter coat, maybe al start to wear me little jacket"

Webbo's Geordie thermometer is so true :)

Sorry gness (is that short for Guiness?) - never said ta for your first response. Hope this finds you - and all the others in this string - keeping well despite the weather.
Brighter today but no warmer.
Oh! to be somewhere nice and warm! Has anyone been to Sri Lanka?
Guess it is very different now but I always think I would love to go back but there has been lotsof trouble there.
Had a friend there called Rex Wikramatillika - really nice folk.
Memories of tropical sunsets, coconuts sraight from the tree, wall to wall sunshine - until the monsoon came. Talk about rain!!
Cheers
jackee
Goodevening Jacklee, Hope your wife was well today x
Evening Jack....yes...short for Guinness. And if it hadn't been for the icy weather I wouldn't have a foot the size of a bread bin and a battered and bruised leg......but the Guinness deadens the pain. x

What fettle arwyn - hope you and all the others on this string are well.
Started writing this a few minutes ago but must have had finger trouble 'cos it suddenly disappeared.
Yes, thanks, Minnie was canny but feeling tired - problem with alarm system last night disturbed sleep for all.
Decided she would lie on top of her bed 'just to be comfy' - and promptly went to sleep for hour and a half!
Must say I enjoyed quiet time in the armchair until she woke in time to go down for evening meal.
Sorry if I bore you all - but Minnie and the nursing home seem to take over all my afternoons.
BUT tomorrow my daughter insists I have the day off and she will go see Mum.
Now my naughty secret! Few weeks ago in a fit of madness decided to buy an organ keyboard! - fancy trying to revive my amateur attempts at music making. Haven't touched it yet but am looking to tomorrow and a few free hours.
Bye just now,
jacklee
