I've gone back to try and finish off some loose ends in my tree, and had given up on this one, so I thought i'd call on craft and dotty or anyone else that could help.Louis/Louie William Crottigini/Crottogini born1882 in Hull to my Gt Grandmother Ellen and her second husband Paul Crottigini.I have Louis/Louie in 1901 aged 19 he isn't on the 1911 census,so assume he died between those dates. There is no trace at all that I can find of his death record. It doesn't help that the name is spelt differently every time it comes up.I've tried every thing but no luck, any help once again would be very much appreciated.

I've checked the original register of deaths (not the transcriptions) for every quarter between 1901 and 1911 and can't find his death registration.
I can't find him emigrating but notice there was a Louis Crottogini born in the USA in 1920 who died in 2010............
I have looked him up on Ancestry which I subscribe to, and found his birth Louis William CrottEgini born in Hull, Yorks in July/Aug/Sept quarter of 1881 (not 1882) As his surname sounds foreign, do you think he could have emigrated? I will check the immigration records also he was of the age to go to war, I think some did before the 1914 war actually started. Will get back to you Polly.

Thanks craft, its a mystery isn't it?.His father had an icecream business in Hull,a cousin of my Dad said he remember being told that Louie he fell into a boiling vat,but I dont know when that was, or if it resulted in his death. His father Paul was an Italian subject but Louie/Louis was definitley born in Hull.
Thanks Ann,perhaps he could have emigrated as you say.
Thanks again to both of you for your help.
Done a search on 1911 census for surname Crott* but no joy except for his parents...........
I know its not really what you are looking for but I have found the following on the SCOTTISH census of 1871
Daniel Crottegini born 1830 Italy living in Edinburgh 1871
wife Rosalie Crottegini born 1842 Italy
and Greesayke Crottegini born 1863 Italy

As its such an unusual name maybe they are relatives?
Also found a Lorenzo Crottogini arrived in Dover onboard ship 4 Oct 1846 from Italy
Question Author
Yes I saw those Ann,there was one in London too.Louies father Paul was born @1845 so could be Daniels younger brother, but only a guess. Thanks again for trying.
I've posted a help wanted on Genes Reunited...........they are usually very good.
It was suggested he may have gone to Scotland but I've tried all the name variations and I still can't find him in 1911 on ScotlandsPeople...........

Thanks Ann and craft. I have 1911 census with his parents.I've just found that Louis half brother Thomas Moorhouse lost 3 children and 2 nieces in the 8th May1941 bombing of Hull.My Dad told me about Thomas running to the hospital with one of the children George in his arms but sadly he died.I found them on the list of civilians monument.Thomas died only a few years later,he probably never got over the loss.
I don't think Louis died...............on the 1911 census Ellen is showing as having 1 child and 1 living. This clearly does not refer to her Moorhouse family as she had quite a few Moorhouse children, so I would have thought it referred to Louis.
It would be interesting as to why he fell into a vat as he was a Joiner.
Question Author
In between posts I had a look at the original 1911 census as before I just looked at the basic transcript then I remembered about it showing children that had died. The plot thickens now because they did lose a child Victoria Elizabeth Crottigine born 1884 and died in the same quarter. Why have they given that no children had died, perhaps it was a still birth would that count?
From what I was told the accident happened at the family business, the vat must have been for making the ice cream.
Question Author
craft i've just done a search leaving the names off.I put the birth date in and death between 1900 and 1910 and place of death as Hull and it came up with-
Male
Born 1882 Died 1906
Jul-Aug Sept Vol 9d Page 172
I went into the record but the names all began with U,and couldn't find anything.I browsed through the C'S for that year and quarter but nothing came to light.
What about MIs, do you know where any of the family were buried? Have you found him in the WW1 records? If he was still alive after 1911 and is just missing from the census he should turn up enlisting or as a conscript.
Hi dotty.............I can't find him in any military records.
Question Author
No Dotty I don't know where he is buried, and i've searched war records and he's not there either,or in prison!
Question Author
I meant I don't know where any of the family is buried.I am in contact with some cousins of my Dads who are doing the tree, but they're no wiser either.
There is a Louis Crottogini in the US SSI dying 1970 in California whose birth is given as 28 October 1890.
Louis
Middle Name:
Last Name: Crottogini
Name Suffix:
Birth Date: 28 October 1890
Social Security Number: 546-44-9285
Place of Issuance: California
Last Residence: Marin, California
Zip Code of Last Residence: 94904
Death Date: August 1970
Estimated Age at Death: 80
Question Author
That would be feasible dotty except for his birth date which is 1881,I suppose he could have lied.
Craft I have just had a look at the message board where you asked about Louis on Genes and it's right there is no record of either of Ellens marriages. On the 1911 census she is down as married for 31 years.I did the individual search for every quarter of that year but could'nt find her under Moorhouse.Unless she wasn't married to him in which case I 'll have a look under Hoggard. The Moorhouses are a mystery too but I won't go into that! What did you think to the earlier reply post about the death record with just male?Does it mean it's a record but the name hasn't been added?
