Should the taxpayer fund this NHS surgery, when there are plenty more life saving operations that have to be carried out in the USA, with money raised from charity sources?

She-he shouldn't be allowed the operation if she-he goes ahead with the planned name change. Dennis! Wots she-he thinking?
".......She said she would be lynched if she returned to Turkey as a man...."

We're putting her life at risk by changing her gender - that's not the role of the NHS.

Can't see where USA fits, aog?

Don't think we send many, if any people to the States for operations anymore.

There is a thriving business of people going abroad for PRIVATE medical treatment, bypassing the NHS waiting lists.

No the NHS should not pay, not because he's an immigrant but because it's not designed for pandering to deviants. If they want conversions they can pay for themselves.

I only said this because almost nightly I switch on my regional TV news, and there are reports of some poor little child, who has some life threatening condition, and the parents say "that a life saving operation in the US is their only hope".

This is then followed by blokes from the local pub who are committing themselves to some kind of endurance feat or other, to raise funds to send the child to the US for the operation.
If a woman thinks she is a man or vice versa its not a prosthetic penis thats required but an adjustment to the brain. If no operation exists at present she should join the queue of other patients hoping to find a cure for incurable illnesses.
As R1 says.

This type of operation shouldn't be on the NHS at all - immigrant or not.

Thanks Rov1200 for the clear up. Can I just ask where you got your psychology qualifications from?

Just curious, if this was someone who was say anorexic or maybe suffered from tourettes syndrome, would people also say that since this is a psychological problem, the NHS should not pay?
We could remove funding from all non-life-threatening ailments and put it ALL into cancer.

That seems to be what people want?

Where did that leap of illogic come from Quinny? All I'm saying is that things that are lifestyle choices like sex changes, fertility treatment and cosmetic surgery should not be paid for by the NHS. The budget has a limit and should not be pi55ed away on things that may be nice to have but are unnecessary.
All this gender reassignment sh1te is mostly attention seeking anyway, if they want the plumbing changed then let them pay for it.
I think it's widely accepted that gender reassignment is authorised to prevent chronic psychological problems, including depression.
he/she will not die if he/she does not get a plastic penis......people who need nhs treatment to stay alive could make good use of the money.
Its not gender reassignment surgery that's required. Its brain manipulation to make them feel comfortable in the body they have been given.
