Hello, I have heard that pregnant women get itchy, is it in certain areas or can it be all over.

I have a very itchy belly and itchy boobs. Which i'm sure i've heard is common. However, since yesterday the inside of my wrists every now and then get really warm and go red. there is a slighty bumpy texture to the skin and they itch like mad. They are in near enough the exact same place on each wrist.

could this be pregnancy related?? I dont wear purfume on my wrists and have not put anything new on my skin. Any ideas?

Many thanks

Hi, itching is very common in pregnancy and rarely anything to worry about. I would, however, mention at your next midwife appt - no harm in getting it checked and she might be able to suggest something to relieve the itching.
If the itching spreads to other parts of your body especially legs / feet, or becomes unbearable and keeps you awake at night, definitely go and see your midwife.

thank you YY
my wife goes through like 2 tubes of canisten a month.

hope this helps.
yingyangs right, it is pretty common, mainly where the skin is stretching, such as breasts and tum.

You dont say how far along you are but do mention it to your midwife.

it could be the weather, its been hot and muggy recently and you may just be sweating a bit much in it and causing prickly heat

if at any point the palms of your hands start to itch and you itch in other places then give your maternity ward a call in case they want to check you over.
No problem.
Best wishes for the rest of pregnancy. Look after yourself. x

youll be having bloods done soon too, these are usually pretty thorough.

definately mention it to midwife, though i expect it is just heat and stretching.
My stomach is also very itchy, think that's mainly to do with the over stretching of the skin, plus the stretch marks.

As said, it is common in pregnancy, but if it's excessive then you should speak to midwife, it can mean something else, but I can't remember what.
it can mean a liver problem velvet, but at 40 weeks i think you can pretty much guarantee yours is stretching lol. still no sign?
No Red, 5 days overdue now. Supposed to have a Sweep tomorrow, but I postsponed until Monday, as I'd like baby to be born a Cancerian, I know it's daft, but I think we'll both get along better with Cancerian than Gemini. Is that bonkers?
haha, bonkers maybe but if it helps you feel better then whos to argue lol
Definitely mention this to your midwife puma, its probably nothing to worry about but occasionally itching excessively can be a sign of something else (sorry I can't remember the name)
By the way you are just about the same stage as me, I'll be 13 weeks on Tues unless the scan date changes it!
When are you due? My due date is 28/12/09 at the moment.
Hi Puma, I am almost 16 weeks and have been very itchy. I have been advised that is is perfectly normal. Parently a very itchy belly can be a sign of twins! Mine does get itchy but just have the one twinkle in there!
