the mum and dad -in -law are celebrating 45 years married (and 50 together) on saturday.

we love them both dearly and they have been a massive support to us over the years - in fact, our lives would be pretty crap if it wasn't for them!

The thing is, we didn't know until today and we haven't got much money. What an earth can we get them??

I would be grateful for any ideas. x

could you all chip in and do a buffet and do a surprise party at their house?

that would be a great idea, except that's what she's organised herself! ( a family get together)
She didn't tell us sooner, as she said she doesn't ant a fuss.
Have you/ your husband got photos of them through the years that you could make into an album for them - I feel that something they can have to look at and think that they received for their anniversary would be nice.
digital photo frames are good
have you got a budget in mind?

i found a brilliant website through facebook, weirdly!! it's one of those photo mosaic website service thingies. you upload digital photographs and it collates them into one image. the prices started from 39 and i'll definitely be buying some myself for every single birthday, anniversary, wedding and christening

we've only got recent photos of them really. But i had thought of something similar.
We got them a digi frame for christmas!

I was hoping to spend about 340 or less.

i thought we could do a mr and mrs type quiz too.

does anywhere near you do engraving ? nice crystal vase or couple of nice glasses engraved with, names date or a message,i bought a couple of crystal wine glasses and had them engraved for about 18 each last year.
just to add, as not sure i was very clear there, lol, the cost included the glasses as well as engraving :-)

yes that's a nice idea, lorri. they are both wine drinkers. Ill look in the yellow pages. x
i've just found that 45 year anniversary is represented by sapphire, which obviously doesn't have to be blue.

crisgal, lol i was going to say 340 was a very specific amount!!

have you had any luck yet?

we thought about a cuckoo clock - by pooling with my sister in laws, but they don't want to (they are quite well off!).
Anyway, they now live in a flat and used to have a lovely garden. We have found a nice clock that has twelve birds on, around the numbers. On the hour, a different birdsong is played! It sounds naff but someone at work has it and they say it's lovely so I think they'll like it.
Also, i have ordered a crystal rainbow maker, from the children.
I couldn't really think of anything blue, and there decor isn't blue anyway. Mum loves her pots and glassware and enjoys buying her own. Thanks everyone for your help. x
i made an album for my parents two years ago when they celebrated their 50th.I started with a pic each of them as kids then a wedding phot.included me and my brother and all their grandkids.Did holiday memories, friends of theirs and alss added some funny captions. They had loads of pressies but still look at this album...Left pages blank for them to add to too. You can include lots of things that you know they hold dear...They will love it..
what about booking a table in a nice resterant if you say when you book it s for an anniversary they may throw in a complementry bottle of wine
you should be able to get two nice main courses for 40 pound
