My daughter is pregnant and after her first child was born she was told that the new baby would have to be brought by C-Section, my question is how long can she expect to be laid up both in hospital and at home recovering.

Hi, I've had 2 sections. I was out of hospital on my second within 48 hours. They don't allow you to stay in bed, they make you get up! i.e. taking the cathater out, so you have to walk for a wee!

Honestly, by the second day, I was mobile! when you get home, as long as there is no infection, she'll be able to walk about and do things! (obviosly nothing to excessive)

you'd be surprized how fast recovery is!
was first child born by c-sect? if not, what reason did they give for a future section?

she may not need it but a section is minimum of 2 days in hospital and for 6 weeks at least she cant drive and shouldnt do any heavy lifting. but its different woman to woman

Thanks redcrx
She was 36 hours in labour and the difficulty was she has a small birth canal and was very poorly afterwards
ok, expect the recovery to be 2+ days in hospital and approx 6 weeks at home as andrea said too.

If it was being advised due to other complications then it may have been a different answer, but an elective c-sect with spinal block rather than general should be minimal recovery in hospital, and has got to be preferable to 36 hour labour. poor thing.
due to having a very large baby (11lb !!) previously by normal delivery, i pleaded for a section with my daughter.

i hated giving birth and new this was the right thing for me.

i have never regretted it , i stayed in hospital for almost 3 days. and was walking my kids to school the next week. you are not aloud to drive or lift anything heavy -- this thankfully includes the hoover iron & kettle.

my husband had a week off work to help me to start with but after that i was fine.

if you are a strong person who doesnt usually let a bit of pain or illness get you down then you should be fine.
if you are someone who is bowled over by man-flu lol or you have to have a week in bed after a heavy weekend then you may not handle it so well lol.

tell her not to worry the doctors etc were great with me and i would never want to do it any other way again .!! it was fabulous. and i do mean that !!!
hello, both my boys were born through c section, i was in hospital for 7 days with my first due to been in labour for so long before section i was in for 5 days with my second. i was told to rest and not do anything when i got home but with my first i just wanted to go out and show him off. my 2nd was in intensive care so i was up and down the hospital all day from the day i went home. when it is your second you ahve no choice but to try and get on with things as someone has got to care for the other child.
