My wife unfortunatley suffered a miscarriage recently, we are obviously shocked and upset, but we were wondering about statutory sick leave for her. She is still feeling quite weak and washed out, we both are, but is there a specific amount of time off my wife should take? Or is it just the appropriate time for her, when she feels ready herself?

love to you both. Having suffered 2 miscarriages myself I completely understand about the work thing. Its not just feeling upto it but having to face people that know. I took about a month off with the first one as I was 4 months gone and needed the time to get over it. It really does depend on the individual. It also depends on where your wife works. Anything pregnancy related such as miscarriage shouldn't count on her sick leave and I'm sure your GP will be happy to sign her off for as long as she wishes. One thing I will say is the longer the time she has off the harder it is to get back to normal. Take care x
sorry for you both.
is your wife taking iron tablets, as these promote energy and restore red blood cells after blood loss. also red meats.
rest is good, tell your wife to take it one day at a time.
i would say she will know herself when to return to work.
in my experience i was absent for 32 days (over 4 months)
and when i could i was relieved to be back at work.
take care of each other. xxxx

Thanks for your quick relpy's!
My Wife appreciates the advice, as she was worried she would have to return to work quite quickly. We are lucky that its a small family run business where she works, and they have no problem with her absence at the miniute.
A visit to our GP is booked, as are more scans in the following weeks. We will take one day at a time. Thanks again.
let me know how you get on. in here with plenty of experience myself if needed. xxxxx

Mrs daginge here....Im doing ok considering, thanks for your support. I went to the doctors today who signed me off work for 3 weeks, as im due a scan on the 13th(friday, just my luck) and if the scan is clear then i can start to put the whole ordeal behind me.....hopefully. All our freinds and family have been fab, its amazing how many other people we know who have had a miscarriage themselves but kept it quiet, so have loads of shoulders to cry on, and im sure we could open a florist with all the flowers! Thanks so much again, knowing I can come on here and have a rant is great. Keep you posted x
aww hello, good to hear from you , yes lots of support needed and im glad you have such a good network of support. take care radiogaga. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
So sorry for you and know exactly how you feel.

Its not until you have one yourself that you realise just how many others have too and that was great comfort for us.

Time off for us was under compassionate leave and once we were clear of the hospital visits, we were able to get on with life and put it behind us.

If it is any consolation, our first born has just arrived with no complications.

I wondered whether I should tell you that but remember that we got comfort from knowing that people had managed to have kids despite a miscarriage.

Really feel for you but it does get easier - I promise
