My new Great Grand baby has colic, leaving his new parents beside themselves worrying.

Baby was 6 1/2 weeks premature and got on fine in the first 4 weeks but poor little might is screaming with pain since. Several visits to the baby unit where the Doctor has prescribed various meds....I don't know what...

Any parents here with tips to help sooth the little lad. He's only just over 5lb now.

My daughter Queenofmean was very colicky too my health visitor recommended Infacol which she "sucked" before her feeds it seemed to help. I don't know if it's still available now, as daughter is now 25

Thats one of the names I heard they have been using so yes it is still in use but doesn't seem to be working on the wee lad.
See if you can research tummy massage, is very helpful after a warm bath - however great care must be taken in one so tiny. There is a technique to it.

I swore by Gripe Water and even today it helps me with my IBS.

Thank you Mamyalynne. I will see them tomorrow and pass on all tips. In fact I think I will refer them to this site as its very helpful for all sorts.

It all started so suddenly after having what seemed like the perfect baby its worrying them dreadfully. Being over tired too isn't helping.
When any of mine were colicky, I would lie then tummy down across my legs and gently rub their back. Don't know if that would be of any help. Also, babies tend to pick up on their parents being stressed - I know it's easier said than done but mum and dad have to be chilled when dealing with your great grandson.
I presume that Doctor is satisfied all is ok with bowels etc, but still worry is part and parcel of new parenthood and him being early will have intensified all that.

I am sure he will settle.

Thanks ladies. I am sure as first time parents they are still getting used to the idea plus baby being early was stressful.

Yes Mamyalynne the Doctor is satisfied all is well with baby. Thanks again. x
My friend gave gripe water (successfully) with all 3 of her colicky babies. I agree with sherr- a little gentle pressure on the tummy helps. Put him over shoulder and rub his back. His stomach may be a little immature still. He will outgrow it xx
