Hi,

I have been using these patches for some time now and was told to stick them as close to the pain site as possible [lower back for me]. The skin there is now really aggravated, red and itchy. Can I just put it somewhere else? On my thigh for example. I am not seeing my GP till next week so thought I'd ask here in the mean time.

Yes, stick them anywhere as long is it is away from the inflamed skin area.
i have no idea why you were asked to put them close to t he pain site - they work by being absorbed into the blood stream. As sq says, put them anywhere (from someone who used to be a pain nurse AND used to use the butrans patches)
