i was born in june 87, and i've recently heard about a lot of outbreaks at universities. i was vaccinated as a child but i think that there was a second vaccination introduced for it at some point, presumably after i had mine. any information about this would be welcome, and also do i need a second one?

thank you!

I am at university and have just been looking in to this... (A friend had mumps which developed into viral meningitis which is a possible complication).

Although a simple phone call to your health centre is the best solution,I did need a second injection. It really all depends on what you have had in the past and when, but it is best to check.

And the reports are right - lots of people at my university do have mumps, just trying not to get sick!
My daughter was born in July 87, going to uni, checked with GP and she needs another mumps jab, you fit into the bracket that missed out, but your GP surgery will have records.
