Our Gp diagnosed my 18mnth old with a vomiting bug today and we've treating her with calpol and fluid. Shes been sleeping since 7pm and i just checked her temp with an "in the ear" thermometer and it read 38. Do I wak her up to give her a dose of calpol or should I lt her sleep?

thanks in advance

you need to monitor her temp closely, and if she continues to burn up, wake her and give her calpol, and apply a cool cloth to her forehead, to cool her, there is a virus around at the moment, but you do need to keep the temp under control! hope she's fine.....
In my experience if the fever is bothering her, she will wake up and cry (or vomit!) and you can give her calpol then, otherwise i would let her sleep and just keep an eye on her. If you can give her face a wipe with a cool cloth without waking her then go ahead. Just make sure that her room is not too warm.

Even when you are healthy, i think your temperature rises when you are sleeping so i don't think that she is too high above normal.
38 is not a temperature to worry about. If it stays there it is OK. You need to worry if it goes above 40. If the child is sleeping, let him sleep. This type of sickness usually lasts only for 24-48 hours. All my three kids just got over it. It is very stressful, but it will pass. *** Luck!
Hi aggiela, just had the same thing with my 3 yr old, he is burning up early morning and late evening just at bedtime, apparently that's prime fever time as that's when they're most tired. He had more toilet trouble, but he was fine aftter 48 hrs, I did panic and keep taking his temp though. Calpol helped, for a while and settled him, might be good to give a dose just before bed so at least some recuperative sleep is gotten. Feel for you, having just been super worried about it!
