Nature or nurture

Nature: Are people born with certain genetic characteristics that cannot be changed

or Nurture: Does a child's environment and the way they are brought up affect the way they turn out.

Eg. Being gay - is it genetic (nature) and therefore inevitable and out of the person's and parents' control or is it things they were exposed to throughout their childhood that developed those feelings? (nurture)

Don't know the context of nurture assumption but it probably means the prevailing assumption that whatever you are talking about has been developed during childhood due to environment/parenting
