I have been invited to a birthday party for a 1 year old girl. Personally I think it is stupid, the child is too young to be aware. Any thoughts on this and what to get as a present?

of course the child is too young too appreciate it, but for the proud parents it's a big milestone.

play the game, for heaven's sake ;o)
personally if I had to go to a 1 year olds party I'd take a bottle of glenfiddich....
I was under the impression that a birthday party was to celebrate the fact that someone you love has been born, therefore I think it's quite in order... so get the baby a baby present, unless you hate it of course in which case don't go;-)
i bought a close friends chil a charm bracelet for her 1st birthday and a couple of relevant charms for her age (the number 1, a teddy and her initials)
i shall add to this each year and perhaps when shes an adult she will appreciate it.
Dora The Explorer is SOOOOO last year ....avoid that with your life unles you want a tantrum on your hands :)

Good luck with pass the parcel ...hope you win ...and remember your DOGGY - BAG !!!!

I have only seen the child once since it was born so there is no closeness, never seen it's mother or father either. Really don't know why I have been invited.
I think you are lucky the parents want you to be part of this special day x
Memories are special and are there to be looked back on
How about buying someting that can be added to over the years cherished teddies or similar x
dont go then, if you feel bad about it its bound to be noticed.
I think maybe you shouldn't go.

what a misery!
just for the record, no parent would be happy to have their child referred to as "it".

Yes you are right Pizza, I know the whole affair will be caught on camera and it will be nice to look back on for her.
so you reckon they just stuck a pin in the phone book and picked ya at random then shaking?
You have a point if you know neither the child or it's parents , why ARE you invited... maybe they've formed a cannibal cooking club and are looking for a starter, i'd be careful if I were you:;-)
If you don't know any of the people or the baby concerned why have you been invited in the first place?

lol @ obNOXious
not sure if its friends or family's child but if you have only seen her once I would ?why you have been invited x dont mean to be nosey x
I'm guessing you're a rich, older relative and they are trying to get in your will!

You have a point there Carrot99, did cross my mind as well.
hmmm, maybe they were just trying to get you involved or they wanted to invite everyone they know.

assuming that they are after your money is a bit rough

if you have these feelings then dont go, nothing worse than people who think everyone is after their money everytime someone does something nice for them.
shaking a small amount of money in a card with a note saying you thought she would get lots of toys so you are hoping that it can go in her bank account for later is always a good thing for children , go along you dont have to stay too long just put in an appearence it might do you good take your mind off everything else for a while ,in these situations i always think what my mum would have said ruth xxx
