My son is 5 hand a half, and has started having little accidents again. It is usually only a few drops but enough for him to ask for a change of pants. I had thought it was laziness and that he wasn't going to the loo in time as he was busy playing, but he told me he didn't feel it happening until it was too late. Now though I have found that he goes to the loo, then after he has finished, he rushes back to the loo a few minutes later and tries to go again. He says it feels like he needs to go even though there is nothing to come out. I have taken a sample to the docs, which came back normal. I am trying to not make a big deal of it but it has gone on for quite a few weeks now. Also, he now won't drink hardly anything as in his mind it will stop it happening. I think that is what is causing the second problem as his wee gets strong. But if I get him to drink more we weill still have the first problem. He was always fine before this, potty trained well, never wet the bed, so I am unsure what to do now. Is it a phase boys have? I am trying not to make an issue of it as it is clear he is noticing it, but also don't want to ignore it.

Hi have you tried rewarding him for dry pants (if he manages to) My 4 yr old went through a similar phase and I was annoyed with her to begin with until she got upset and said she couldn't help it!
I then ignored it completely and changed her pants without fuss and not mentioning it. I always had spare in my bag for when we were out. She soon stopped doing it.
I would just tell your son not to worry and reassure him it doesn't matter. When he does show some improvement which I'm sure he will, reward him with a sticker chart. Good luck.
Is anything about the toilet arrangements at school bothering him? If he's been OK before, the fac that he's now at school full time is the thing that has changed....is it worth booking a chat with his teacher?

I don't think school is upsetting him. He seems fine with it and he was fine in Reception last year too. I am worried about doing rewards when I get the impression that he can't help it. Will see what happens over the next couple of weeks. I am trying to get him to start and stop weeing each time he wees to make sure he has proper control. He thinks it is a game so he isn't worried about dong that. I am hoping it is a phase as he was been fine for the last 2 years since being potty trained.
i would suggest going back to the docs, i mean if he feels like he needs to loo but nothing coming out, this isnt normal and sounds like a medical problem, i understand the tests were clear but id defo go back and ask for more tests xxx

Actually went back to the docs today and he has been referred to urology, with a view to circumcision. I have raised it at the docs before but now he is 5 and it is giving him problems they have decided to do something about it. Up until now I have thought he may need a little op, but only because it looked a bit tight and we couldn't sem to stretch it, it has never actually caused him discomfort before, and the doc previously said to wait another year or so to see if it stretches. Apparently it is because some of his wee is staying inside due to it being tight, which is causing him to get sore. I hadn't wanted to make an issue of it in case it was just a little phase but glad I went back to the docs today. Thanks to those who have replied.
