Please could anyone advise whether you can still work whilst on maternity leave and how much you're allowed to earn. Unfortunately with all the building trade so quiet my husband has very little work and we're struggling to pay the mortgage and all the bills. Much as it upsets me, I have to either return to work after only a few weeks of giving birth or try and find a little bit of work to keep us going on top of the maternity pay. Can anyone help? We've even had to cancel a holiday in September as we haven't any spending money. You are probably thinking 'why didn't they save', well we did!! There's been that much of a drop in my husbands wage that all the savings have been eaten up already! Thanks in advance.

Joey? Did we miss you birth announcement hun????

As for working, I think you can only work 10 hours a month when of maternity leave.

The minimum maternity leave allowed is 2 weeks, you cant return within 2 weeks of the birth.

Hi redcrx. I'm not sure if I posted. I had a little girl at the beginning of July! She's lovely and her brother (who is 6) is absolutely brilliant with her. How old is your newest arrival now? Did you have a boy?

Thanks for your answer!
Joey
congratulations (you may have posted, my baby brain is awful)

i had a little girl as well, shes 4 months old now and her big brother is also besotted
Can't really answer your question but I can sympathise. My hubby is a bricklayer and his work situation is dire too. He is getting the odd few jobs now but not enough and I only work 2 days with no further childcare so I can't work anymore. Its just sh*t isn't it? I feel so depressed at times I could bang my head against the wall!! I just hope things pick up soon.
