In short, you dont.

It may be that your baby is being woken by the dawn chorus? Mine is waking at 5.30 / 6am but will drop off to sleep again until 8am.

Have you got blackout blinds / curtains to stop the sunlight waking him / her?

Come on skids, a baby sleeping habits cant be controlled u just have to control yours to suit the baby's. ok!!!!!! have fun i have a 3 month old
I agree with redcrx. Blackout curtain liners worked wonders with my younger daughter. It might only give you an extra 30 minutes or so, but that can be a life saver sometimes.

No it doesn't zacsmaster, My daughter gets up at 6.30 no mater what time she goes to bed. It just means she gets up grumpy if she went to bed late.

I have black out curtains/blinds at all my upstairs windows. It helps us all sleep.

I'm sorry but I disagree. A baby usually needs a certain number of hours sleep a day - made up of a longer night-time sleep and one or two naps during the day. Knowing how much sleep they need to be happy and healthy, it is possible to push a baby's bedtime back so that they sleep later in the morning, but it takes time to alter sleep patterns. The question is: are you able to cope with altering the routine, which may take 2 -3 weeks, or not? My own children, as babies, all went to bed about 9:00pm, and would wake between 8 and 9. That suited me and them. In my experience, people seem to want to complain about how early their children get up, but don't really seem to want to do anything about it! It can be done, how determined are you?

You call 6.30 early?? God,as a mother of 4 kids that would be a lie-in some days!!
I'm not saying I think 06.30 early (I used to work shifts and had to be up at 04.00) I am just saying that my youngest gets up at that time no matter what time she goes to bed which is usually at 19.30 but if it's later she still gets up at 06.30
So, your child needs 11 hours sleep. Are you prepared to push her bedtime back 10 minutes or so each night over a period of 2-3 weeks, so that she goes to bed at 8.30 and wakes at 7.30? It won't happen overnight, as her body clock will start to wake her when the familiar 6.30 signs/sounds happen around the house, but if you persevere, and it is convenient for you and the rest of your family, you can get her to sleep in.
Sorry skids, It was not my intention to take over your thread, Only to tell you that I use blackout blinds!

Apologies from me too for not reading carefully who was replying!
