my friend has just discovered that her baby girl does not have an opening to her vagina, shes 15 months old and my friend swears that she had an opening when she was born.it looks like the hole has sealed over. its not an area that you look at too frequently but baby had some very runny nappies so my friend had to clean in all the places! i know this sounds so bizzare which is why i have put a posting on here to see if anyone else has heard of this?

baby is going to doctors next week to get it checked.

I'm not a Doctor and I don't have any children, but it sounds to me like the hymen - skin that forms across the vagina.

glad shes going to the doctors if your friend is sure about what she has seen.

just a question really, surely every time you clean a babys bum you wash it and check for sores, nappy rash etc....

karen,thats what we thought....the hymen.thanks for that.

mel, yeah my friend is sure and ive checked it out too,its bizarre!

yeah you do wipe every area when you change a nappy,or atleast i did with my 2! but suppose kind of dont go that far into that part of the vagina to see the vaginal opening. (im trying not to be to graphic!)

thanks for your input guys.nik.x

hi nik, i guess u born 1971 like me.

My niece had the same problem but it was discovered when she was born. She is 1 1/2 now but the doctors didnt slit her till about 8 weeks old.

it will be ok as she is still young. how comes they didnt pick it up.

Question Author

kev, yeah born in 71 !

thanks for letting me know that there are others out there with same problem.

the bizzare thing is that the baby was fine at birth, all checked out and everything in correct place etc... it really is as if the opening has covered over in the last few months. its so bizzare! we are truly puzzled!
