I did it too when I was at school.  I did it because I didn't want to do road runs.  I have short legs and couldn't run as fast as the others and got fed up with them laughing at me.  All you can do is to explain to her what happens to adults who forge signatures and get caught out.
i think it depends on what the reason was for forging the signiture- if it was to get out of PE for example I think we have all been there so I'd be tempted to acknowledge it with a "I'm really dissapointed" and perhaps a mild sanction (loss of a privallage for a few days) a discussion about trust etc and that if it happened again the outcome may be more serious etc...

if it is more serious e.g she forged a slip telling school you are happy to pay a deposit if 200 on a ski trip....well I'd be tempted to take the line of no ski trip etc....so it depends on the context
I can't advise as I'm only 22 and have no kids.  BUT, I wonder if you tell us your child's age that might help get a better response.  And a few more details about the seriousness of the letter.  Show how disappointed in her you are - that usually does the trick!!  Couple it with a punishment.  But the guilt trip always works better than the b0770cking IMHO.  Good luck.

I forged my mum's signature to get out of having a Rubella injection.

However, this came back to haunt me when I became pregnant and suddenly remembered this - had to pay for a test to see if I was immune or not, luckily I was, but looking back with adult eyes that was a stupid thing to do.

I tend to agree with catra1 , but I think we need more detail before we can offer more advice.
i did it too. mainly becouse i forgot to ask my mum to sign a paper. she never really cared. as long as i had a good reason. and if the school called her she would say she signed the paper, and would get me at home. i never really got in major trouble though! god bless my mummy! i love her!
i wouldnt worry too much all children go thru that stage, as long as they know when not to cross the line, u will be fine, have a word with the child lettin them know its not the right thing to do,but try not to make a big deal of it,at the end of the day did u not do the same thing when u were at school, i know i did,

I remember doing it to pass off having done my homework, and getting caught..... Then when I was 18 mum went away for a week and left no money for the windscreen repairman she'd booked to fox her brand new car windscreen.... Funnily enough, she rang me and asked if I would fill out a cheque and sign her name......

So I guess I am not surewhat you should do!!!! :-) As I am now very confused (many years later!!! )

i forged my mums signiture when i was at high school because i had been naughty in class and the teacher wrote a note home for permission to keep me for a detention, i was so scared of how my mum would react i forged the signiture and went to the detention praying it looked real, my mum never found out but i learnt my lesson by myself. If your kid has forged your signiture it may mean she doesnt want you to see what the not says, dont punisher for being worried or scared, talk things over with her. If she continues to be naughty then punish her.

I did that a few times too.

sometimes cos i didn't feel able to tell my parents that i didn't want to do something (p.e. usually!!), because i didn't want to disappoint them, and sometimes cos i'd simply forgotten to get things signed when i was at home.

don't worry- tell your daugher that she can always ask you for anything, and that you will be open minded and listen to her, and remind her that it was wrong to lie, but that you understand why she did it. don't overreact!
