What floorings do you have through your house and how happy are you with your choice?

If you had the option would you have something different with the benefit of hindsight?

I'm having to make some decisions and opinions are appreciated.

And this should have gone in Home & Garden!
Well I put down wooden floors some years ago and am deciding too, what to do next year if I do some decorating I would go back to carpet.

The reason being we live in a very damp rainy country and I find carpet lovely and warm. Any house I go to where there is carpet very warm and inviting.
And I think it depends on the room you are referring to. I haven't changed anything but the kitchen in my place, so it is the only room no longer carpeted ! Ideally it, bathroom, and maybe hall would benefit from good quality vinyl flooring. Whether one has polished floorboards/rug or carpeting elsewhere is a matter of personal choice
Bathroom/Loo and Kitchen warm to touch vinyl flooring - easy to clean.

Hall/Bedrooms and Lounge a neutral colour hard wearing carpet.

No fluffy rugs for me (sight trouble and fear of tripping) Don't care for wooden floors much.
I have a carpet in the living room and hall/stairs/landing.

If I had my way I'd only have carpet on the stairs and landing. The floorboards are in great condition and I'd rather have them sanded. Carpets get so filthy!

I have black slate in the kitchen/utility/cloakroom. It's nice but shows up every crumb that's dropped.

I'm looking to remove carpets from the whole of the house and have stone in the wet rooms and solid wood everywhere else.

I'm curious to know what the experience of others is.
My last house was wood flooring throughout. So much easier to keep clean.

I am going to have to give some thought to the stairs.

I think I'll be happy with wood/stone through the house but I'm not sure about flattery stairs!

Clattery stairs not flattery!
I live in a Town House and I had the carpet ripped up and wooden flooring laid in my living room on the first floor 4 years ago. Underneath is the garage. Its looks nice but the house have never been warm since.

The insulation in my house is really quite extraordinary and will continue to be so, so I don't see an issue there.
I have wooden flooring throughout, except for the bathroom (granite) and the kitchen (cushion floor so easily washable). I love the wooden flooring with a couple of very nice rugs.
In my old house, I had an iron spiral staircase with wooden treads. It was lethal in socks!

I prefer carpets in all "dry rooms" as it's cosy, and lino/tiles in the bathroom and kitchen.

Wooden floors everywhere except stairs .Tiled bathroom floor .Cushion floor in downstairs loo and kitchen area.Kelim rugs in hall ,lounge and bedrooms .
I've got carpet throughout except vinyl in one bathroom and wooden in hall and kitchen. I'm always cold so although wooden looks stylish I couldn't put up with the cold and noise, especially not in the living room as I often sit on the floor.
Tiles in the kitchen and bathroom. Downstairs is wooden floor, stairs and upstairs is carpet. I wouldn`t want wood upstairs as carpet is more cosy. I wouldn`t want carpet downstairs as I would be forever cleaning it (my carpets are cream so would show the dirt)
Carpet everywhere except kitchen/bathroom areas, conservatory and study.
No way would I have any kind of hard flooring in any areas where is wasn't necessary for hygien or practical purposes. I don't believe it's easier to care for, in fact I believe it takes more effort and time. I also don't like rugs, I like plain and simple, faff free, so I can whip the Hoover round.
Doesn't matter how nice/trendy/artistic hard floors look, I think they're cold and unwelcoming, and take more effort to keep looking nice.
Wood in lounge..amtico In kitchen, ceramic in hall, carpets on stairs and beds amtico in bathroom...
Wood downstairs, stairs landing and carpets ( bathroom ceramic tiles ).
oak plank floors and rugs in hall living room and dining room, tile in kitchen and loo, bathroom, carpet in bedrooms. I love the oak and tiles. Biggest mistake I made was recarpeting the spare room with cream carpet. Even though it gets little use it shows every mark and has a black line around the wainscotting. Would oak floor and rug the bedrooms if I could afford it.
