I need to send come paperwork to HMRC in Birmingham for our vat rebate.
If it was lost in transit by the Courier or Royal Mail I would be seriously left out of pocket... yet none of these carriers seem to offer insurance or compensation of much more than £3000

How can i get the parcel there safely and be covered if it went missing?

(other than taking it the 150 miles myself of course!)

Hi Ummmm... Yes that has been suggested to me.. except there are 990 receipts!!! Which put me off a bit! Even scanning them would take me days!
Apparently the carrier we use at work have only lost one parcel in last 6 months and even then that was found a few days later.
I've packed it up - put my name and add on outer also.... and inside is a covering letter with my details too... FINGERS CROSSED FOR ME!!!
Get it sent by Post Office special next day delivery. It costs £5.00, but is worth it. I have used it on lots of occasions. It's more reliable than recorded delivery or registered mail. Make sure too that you have photocopies of everything you are sending.
I wouldn't worry too much.
I would wait till Monday and send it then. More chance of it getting lost if hanging around over the weekend as I take it Vat office don`t work Saturdays.

Oh you've all got me paranoid now! Will spend my lunch break photocopying it all here!!!

If its going to happen to anyone it';ll bloody be me I just know it!!!

THANKS ALL
Happy friday
If it's really that valuable, take it yourself, no?
I have sent house deeds and loads of other important documents off by post office special delivery. I don't trust recorded delivery very much though.
Take it to your nearest Tax office, get a receipt for it and ask them to forward it via their internal mail system?
Royal Mail special delivery does have a consequentail loss option - not sure to what value though
If you can get it to your local HMRC office they will transport it for you
