I don't see why not, otherwise everyone would go off on long term sick if they knew their workplace was closing.
yes

i thought as much but was just checking, thanks
Think of this from an employers position.

If you had to downsize your company who would you lay off? Sick, Lame, Lazy (not all the same person) or those that put in the hours and get results?

Unfortunately the world is a very competitive place at the moment so it does not take much for a company to think about letting staff go in order to maximise their income.

i agree, my mate was told a couple of weeks ago that they were stopping her job, (but now its being done from another depot) and with all th stress she is on the sick and has now been given a letter today to say that hr are visiting her tomorrow with a view to redundancy on friday! she just wondered where she stood, she has been offered other jobs but refuses,
Well she needs to be careful- if she is turning down reasonable alternative employment then she could find she has effectively dismissed herself and won't be eligible for redundancy benefits.
Yes - it's the job which is made redundant, not the person. If she is made redundant then they can't replace her with someone else in exactly the same job, for at least six months after the redundancy.
PS yes also agree with factor. Some of our staff are being moved to new bases 20 miles away - our contracts say that the employer reserves the right to other locations in the interest of the service - if they don't go, they are not redundant.
