In terms of job specifications, teachers in the traditional sense are generally more qualified, usually to PGCE level and conduct more teacher-centred learning. (unless they work in FE where a teaching qualification is not always necessary)  They also usually tend to work in education, private or public. Faciliators do not need a teaching certificate or necessarily a HE qualification, and may work throughout industry as, for example, an IT trainer at a factory or an educational facilitator within heritage.

A facilitator creates the opportunity for people to discover solutions for themselves, and is a medium of learning within a student centred environment. Facilitating a class is just one of many skills of a good teacher; teaching rather than faciliatating involves a range of teaching styles. The teacher is much more likely to take a more central role.

And as a career choice, facilitators on the whole do not enjoy the salaries and benefits of a teacher within the education sector!
