Can anyone advise me how to terminate a tennants in common agreement on our house? Myself & my wife own 45% each, wihth 10% owned by my late mother in law, she has willed her 10% to 8 of her children (all adults). The out come we want is for myself & wife to own the house outright.
Would it be better to return the property to joint tennancy?

do the 7 other children agree to you buying them out?
I think that 's the only way you can do it, to buy out the 10% and distribute it to the children.

yes they are happy for us to buy them out, but what do we do about the deeds / land registry?
There are various forms to be completed - both to transfer the 10% interest to you & to alter the title to joint tenancy. You either get a solicitor to do this for you or you can ring the Land Registry (look online for the number) & ask for advice as to which forms are needed. There will be fees to be paid to them.

I assume you already have a copy of the Land Certificate. If not, you can buy this online from the landregisteronline site.
