"Old" coins and banknotes

I'm wondering if any profitable use, say by a charity, can be made of various bits of money left over from holidays and trips prior to the introduction of the euro. Thanks for any advice.

Many charities are happy to receive such cash.

How much they get for it I'm not sure but it's better than throwing it away.
Yes - our local post office will take it for the National Lifeboats assoc. I believe that via various routes they can sell the coins onto collectors etc.
