Maintenance contract 2 years longer than the rental agreement

My company signed a contract for 3 years to lease telephone equipment. Some how we also signed a contract for maintenance on the same equipment with the same provider for 5 years. After the 3 years lease was up the equipment was removed. Can the the same company who provided both equipment and maintenance legally charge for maintenance which is now back in their possession?
