Why do you believe HM Customs will pay for your petrol?
travelling to your normal place of work is not tax deductable.

If you travel directly from home to other places (not your normal place of work) and you are saying that your employer will not compensate you for this travel AND it is further in distance to that other place, you may be able to offset the ADDITIONAL miles against tax at a rate of 40p per mile up to the first 10000. It's called the triangulation rule - but you really need to speak with your employer to establish what he regards as your normal place of work first.
As others have pointed out, setting travel to work costs against tax is definitely a no, no.
