There's been a lot of news of late about the banks starting to make large profits again and thus paying bankers rather large profits. Are these banks required to pay back the taxpayer for the bailout received a year ago?

If you can believe what you read in the papers, the tax-payer will only get any money back if there is any left over after paying out £billions in bonuses to the same people who got the country in this financial mess in the first place. The banks in trouble should have been allowed to go bankrupt.
