How do the finances work for a festival such as Reading or Leeds? How much do bands get paid? How much do fast food people have to pay? How much do the land-owners get? How much for security? Where is the profit?
Just curious !!! Greg

How long is a piece of string?

They make a profit by charging more for the tickets than they pay out hiring the bands, security, etc. Plus they get money from sponsors.
tickets @ 50+ x thousands attendees pay.
Just to give you an idea....

At Glastonbury this year there were 137,500 tickets sold. I can't find this years price but with booking fee 5 and postage of 4.50 (how it costs 4.50 so send some tickets I don't know) and a ticket costing 175 total revenue from ticket sales alone was....

25,368,750 (Yes over 25 million)

Add on revenue from commercial enterprises I would imagine they made a few bob.

As for paying bands etc... I would imagine many of them don't get paid as in effect they need the exposure.

I have no doubt there is plenty to pay for but I'm also sure there is plenty of profit in that 25 million.
