have you thought about maybe doing some basic accounting course or book keeping to show that you are serious and that you are keen. You can do them in the evenings and some only last a couple of weeks. They'll look good on you CV. Also be prepared to have to start right at the very bottom and you will get paid rubbish while you train. I had incredible problems getting a training role. If you want to work for an actutal firm of accountants you will need at lease 20 ucas points and a 2.2 degree before they'll even look at you. If not look for jobs in industry (they pay better as well). But good luck and don't give up. its worth it in the end.

lootmaker, I thought you were going to be an IT specialist. Has that fallen through like the old chemistry? Son, you need to get a plan and stick to it! What do really enjoy? Even if it is naked paint-balling make yourself an oportunity and go with it. Give yourself a year to do the things you really want to do before you sail the accountancy hellishness. Think, you will spend the rest of you life counting other peoples money! What about teaching: any schmuck can do that (believe me). Quick, before you forget all about McClafferty rearrangements (speaking of which, you could have at least helped me out on the THC question in How it Works). Sorry for not giving you the answer.
