i work for a minicab firm in harlow there are only two companies they have both got together and put our radio rent up with no warning is this legal especially in the current climate

Why would you think it isn't? You rent from them, they can raise your rent as they see fit because, as you say, in this current climate, there will another cab driver along tomorrow

What contract arrangement do you have for the radio rental?
What cancellation period or notification of changes to the terms of the rental apply?
Why do you have to work with this firm? Why not start another one? If you sign up to use someone else's operators licence, they can make the rules. Either you go with them and stay or object and go. That's life.
If they have in fact 'got together' to do it it's illegal.

If they are just responding in the same way to market forces then that's life.

Even if the first is true you'll have a hell of a job proving it.
Whatever, you have my respect - I hate driving in Harlow.
